Manuel Cifuentes — St. Riccardo Pampuri
Italy, Italy · 20th Century
What Was Truly Miraculous
On January 5, 1982, in Alcadozo, Albacete, Spain, Manuel Cifuentes suffered a severe eye injury—a corneal tear from a tree branch. Such injuries typically cause permanent scarring and vision loss. Ophthalmological examination would normally document scar tissue and impaired vision. Through the intercession of St. Riccardo Pampuri—who was himself a physician—Cifuentes was cured. Ophthalmological exams showed a complete absence of the expected scar tissue or vision loss. The healing was verified by modern ophthalmological standards. The Vatican Medical Board approved the miracle. Pampuri was canonized November 1, 1989. As a doctor saint, the cure defies his own medical expertise.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
Ophthalmological exams verified the absence of expected scar tissue and vision loss. Corneal tears from trauma typically heal with permanent scarring and vision impairment—complete healing with no scar tissue is ophthalmologically unexpected. Pampuri was himself a physician; the cure defies his own medical expertise. The diocesan tribunal gathered ophthalmological documentation; the Vatican Medical Board reviewed the before-and-after examinations. The evidence is objective and verifiable by any ophthalmologist.
