Healing of Joachime Dehant
Lourdes, Belgium · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
The oldest cure of a "non-native" pilgrim. Joachime arrived at Lourdes with an oozing, gangrenous ulcer covering two-thirds of her leg, with permanent muscle contraction and club foot. The next day, after baths, there was no trace of the ulcer. The flesh and tendons had become normal; the skin was new and rose-coloured. After another bath, her foot returned to its normal position. For thirty years her health remained excellent. The Bishop of Namur proclaimed the cure miraculous in 1908.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Namur recognized it on 25 April 1908. Gangrene does not reverse; dead tissue cannot regenerate. The Bishop verified the cure.
