What Was Truly Miraculous

At 12, Juliette developed a bone lesion of the femur. Over 11 years she had 11 operations, four for bone curetting leading to fistulae. Repeated epistaxes required urgent interventions. In July 1959, when profuse discharge required two dressings a day, she left for Lourdes. After the fistulous tract was syringed with Lourdes water, the discharge dried up, the fistula closed, and the bleeding ceased. Prof. The Bishop of Marseille officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 11 May 1965.

Why It Can't Be Dismissed

The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Marseille recognized it on 11 May 1965. Chronic fistulas typically require surgery. Complete spontaneous closure of multiple fistulae is medically unusual.
