Healing of Jeanne Gestas (Pelin)
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Since December 1943 Jeanne had undergone three abdominal operations, resulting in digestive difficulties and obstructive incidents. She weighed 44 kg when a fourth operation was considered. She came to Lourdes in 1946—no change, but she began to pray. She left again in 1947. During her first Bath on 22 August she felt a "tearing sensation"; by the afternoon she was much better. The next day she came out confident she was cured, abandoned her strict diet, and never suffered malaise again. Prof. The Bishop of Bordeaux officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 13 July 1952.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Bordeaux recognized it on 13 July 1952. The condition was documented by physicians before the healing and verified as serious and incurable. The Medical Bureau and bishop confirmed the cure.
