Healing of Yvonne Fournier
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
At 17, Yvonne's arm was pulled violently when entangled in a driving belt. For 5½ years she had extensive traumatic syndrome with intolerable pain, oedema, and trophic lesions. Nine operations were carried out by Prof. Leriche and Dr. Clovis Vincent. She had a 70% pension—the same as for an amputated limb. On 19 August 1945, after a Bath, she felt her left arm come back to normal. Prof. Salmon and Prof. Thiebaut recognised the cure as medically inexplicable. Cardinal Feltin recognised it as miraculous in 1959.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Paris recognized it on 14 November 1959. Leriche syndrome causes arterial blockage. Spontaneous restoration of limb function is not documented. Prof. Salmon and Prof. Thiebaut recognised the cure as medically inexplicable.
