Healing of Francis Pascal
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Francis developed meningitis at 3¼. He survived but had sequelae: flaccid paraplegia, paralysis of the upper limbs, and loss of vision. Prognosis: absolutely unfavourable. At least a dozen doctors certified his state before he was taken to Lourdes in August 1938. After the second Bath he recovered his sight and lost his paralyses. The Bishop of Aix-en-Provence officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 31 May 1949.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Aix-en-Provence recognized it on 31 May 1949. Permanent paralysis does not spontaneously reverse. Sudden restoration of function is medically unexplained.
