What Was Truly Miraculous

One of the rare cures happening far from the Shrine. Sister Marie-Marguerite's illness began in 1924 with renal disease. By 1937 she had generalised oedema, cardiac crises, and facial neuralgia. The Community started a novena to Our Lady of Lourdes; Sister replaced all medication with Lourdes water. On the last day of the novena, 22 January, during the Elevation of the Host at Mass, she suddenly sensed great relief. The oedema vanished in an instant; she could wear shoes and walk. The Bishop of Rennes officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 20 May 1946.

Why It Can't Be Dismissed

The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Rennes recognized it on 20 May 1946. Heart valve damage does not spontaneously reverse. The bishop judged the cure outside the ordinary scope of science.
