Healing of Juliette Orion
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Juliette had signs of early tuberculosis: pleurisy, bronchitis, loss of weight. In February 1910 she developed laryngitis; in May, left mastoiditis with meningeal involvement and comatose episodes. Her doctors announced her case was hopeless. She was refused a place on the pilgrimage. During the night of 22–23 July, while praying to Our Lady of Lourdes, she suddenly felt much better. Next morning she had recovered her voice and asked for food. The Bishop of Luçon officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 18 October 1913.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Luçon recognized it on 18 October 1913. Tuberculosis was the leading cause of death before antibiotics. Rapid, complete cure without drugs is medically unexplained.
