Healing of Johanna Bezenac (Dubos)
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Following pneumonia in March 1901, Mrs Bezenac developed progressive cachexia. The infection attacked the skin of her face, spreading into the hair roots. She came to Lourdes with her Diocesan Pilgrimage. She was cured in several stages between 8 and 9 August 1904, associated with water from the Spring in the Baths or as a lotion. Two months after her pilgrimage, her doctor verified the "absolute cure of her general condition and localised lesions." Mgr Bougoin declared it had "the character of a true miracle" in July 1908.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Périgueux recognized it on 2 July 1908. Tuberculosis was the leading cause of death before antibiotics. Rapid, complete cure without drugs is medically unexplained.
