Healing of Father Salvator (Capuchin)
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Father Salvator was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis in 1898; in 1900 tuberculous peritonitis set in. His doctors refused to treat him, said he was doomed, and opposed his pilgrimage. On arrival at Lourdes on 25 June he was taken immediately to the Baths. A few minutes later he emerged transformed—so rejuvenated that neither he nor those with him doubted his cure. That evening he ate with a hearty appetite and slept well. The next morning at the Medical Bureau no sign of his former illness could be found. The Bishop of Rennes officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 1 July 1908.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Rennes recognized it on 1 July 1908. Tuberculosis was the leading cause of death before antibiotics. Rapid, complete cure without drugs is medically unexplained.
