Healing of Clementine Malot
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Clementine had tuberculosis with spitting of blood since 1892. She went to Lourdes in 1898 with the National Pilgrimage. After a trying journey she was taken to the Baths on arrival. It was only with the next day and bath that she felt a very marked improvement. She was examined at the Medical Bureau on 21 and 23 August 1898, and again the following year. At the 50th Anniversary inquiry, a consultant physician and X-ray check corroborated the diagnosis. Mgr Douais declared the cure miraculous on 1 November 1908.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Beauvais recognized it on 1 November 1908. Tuberculosis was the leading cause of death before antibiotics. Rapid, complete cure without drugs is medically unexplained.
