Healing of Jeanne Tulasne
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Jeanne had tuberculous peritonitis at 18; six months later the disease spread to her spine. The lesions caused destruction of 2–3 vertebrae, a bone abscess in the left thigh, muscular atrophy, and clubfoot. On 8 September 1897, her twentieth birthday, she joined the Blessed Sacrament Procession. Her Bishop carried the monstrance. "All at once, she felt cured." She was examined at the Medical Bureau the next day and again in 1898. Doctors confirmed the cure from Pott's Disease as complete, sudden, and lasting.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Tours recognized it on 27 October 1907. Pott's disease destroys vertebrae and causes paralysis. Spontaneous healing with restoration of function is not documented.
