What Was Truly Miraculous
Father Cirette was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease. He was cured at Lourdes in 1893. The Bishop of Evreux declared the cure miraculous in 1907. ALS has no cure; spontaneous remission is not documented in medical literature.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Evreux recognized it on 2 November 1907. ALS has no cure; spontaneous remission is not documented. The Bishop of Evreux declared the cure miraculous.
