Healing of Sister Julienne (Aline Bruyere)
Lourdes, France · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Sister Julienne had grave, incurable pulmonary tuberculosis. She was cured in a completely sudden way in the Baths at Lourdes and remained perfectly well for more than a year. Dr. Dunot de St. Maclou and Dr. Boissarie investigated in 1889–1890. When the Canonical enquiry took place in 1911–1912, another group of doctors examined her and were shown an X-ray demonstrating the original pulmonary lesion. The Bishop of Tulle officially recognized the cure as miraculous on 7 March 1912.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
The Lourdes Medical Bureau gathered documentation; the International Medical Committee (C.M.I.L.) affirmed the cure was inexplicable in the current state of medical knowledge. The Bishop of Tulle recognized it on 7 March 1912. Tuberculosis was the leading cause of death before antibiotics. Rapid, complete cure without drugs is medically unexplained.
