Sr. Marie Simon-Pierre — St. John Paul II (Beatification)
France, France · 21st Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Sr. Marie Simon-Pierre had Parkinson's since 2001; it severely impaired her work. After John Paul II's death, her community prayed for his intercession. On June 2–3, 2005, she woke with no pain or rigidity; she could write legibly again—impossible before due to left-side paralysis. Her neurologist confirmed all indications of the disease had disappeared. She had stopped taking medication.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
Parkinson's is incurable; spontaneous remission is extremely rare and not medically understood. A psychiatrist and three neurologists (two university professors) testified they could not explain her recovery. Her own neurologist was astounded when she walked in normally five days later—she had stopped taking medication. John Paul II himself had Parkinson's; the nun's cure through his intercession is poignant.
