Floribeth Mora Diaz — St. John Paul II (Canonization)

What Was Truly Miraculous
Floribeth Mora Diaz, a Costa Rican lawyer, was diagnosed in April 2011 with an inoperable cerebral aneurysm and given about a month to live. On May 1, 2011—the day of John Paul II's beatification—she experienced a vision in which she heard the late pope's voice saying 'get up' and 'be not afraid.' Her aneurysm subsequently disappeared. Medical imaging confirmed the complete resolution.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
Inoperable cerebral aneurysms carry high mortality; spontaneous resolution is medically exceptional. Mora underwent two weeks of testing at Policlinico Gemelli in Rome under a false name—blinding the examiners to her identity. Her neurosurgeon, Dr. Alejandro Vargas Román, stated: 'If I cannot explain it from a medical standpoint, something nonmedical happened. I can believe it was a miracle.' The doctor's testimony carries more weight than institutional approval.
