Joseph Audino — St. André Bessette
Rochester, USA · 20th Century

What Was Truly Miraculous
Joseph Audino, a Rochester businessman, had reticulum cell sarcoma—a cancer that had spread throughout his body. Biopsy results confirmed the diagnosis. His doctor expected his final month and prepared him for palliative care. According to a 1978 CBC documentary, when his doctor injected him with radioactive gold for palliation (pain relief), it cured him nearly overnight—his tumor disappeared. Audino had prayed to Brother André Bessette. The case is solidly documented for its era with 1950s hospital charts, biopsy results, and physician testimonies submitted to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. André was beatified in 1982 and canonized in 2010. He is one of the most venerated North American saints and the first Canadian-born man canonized.
Why It Can't Be Dismissed
Biopsy confirmed reticulum cell sarcoma that had spread throughout his body. Radioactive gold was injected for palliation (pain relief), not as a curative treatment—overnight tumor disappearance defies oncology. A 1978 CBC documentary documented the case. Physician testimonies and 1950s hospital charts were gathered by the diocesan tribunal. The medical evidence is solid for its era. The Vatican approved the miracle for beatification and canonization. André's reputation for healings during his lifetime adds context.
